A 65-year-old man was admitted for peripheral angiography because of intermittent claudication. On physical examination the right femoral pulse was found to be weak. Our first attempt to place the sheath from the right femoral artery failed and so we decided to go on with the radial artery (Figure 1). Contrast injection from the distal aorta revealed totally occluded right common iliac artery with no distal visualization. Since we knew from the first femoral attempt that there was good flow distal to the occlusion, we intentionally searched for possible collateral pathways including the internal thoracic artery (ITA), which is the most reported one. The study of arterial supply of the carpal joint in one-humped camel (Camelus dromedrus)

BACKGROUND: There is little information about blood supply of the carpal joint in one- humped camel, while there is extensive data about cow and equine species. In order to perform surgeries and diagnostic techniques in carpal region, information about the elements of the joint such as its arteries is necessary. OBJECTIVES: This study aims at describing the origins, arrangements, and branches o...

Posterior intercostal artery tortuosity and collateral branch points: a cadaveric study.

Publications report observing tortuosity in the posterior intercostal arteries of elderly patients. Studies also describe the size and course of the collateral intercostal arteries. This information is clinically significant when performing thoracentesis and video-assisted thorascopic surgery. To the best of our knowledge, no studies have examined arterial tortuosity or described collateral...

Modern Trends in Vascular Surgery

SUCH rapid advance has occurred over the past few years in the surgical treatment of disease of large arteries that this work is no longer experimental and is now soundly established. The majority of cases are due to arterio-sclerosis which involves certain segments of the vascular tree, leaving the remainder relatively free from disease. The most frequently involved segments are: 1. Superficia...

Three-dimensional demonstration of the collateral circulation to the artery of Adamkiewicz via inferior epigastric artery with computed tomography angiography.

Conflict of interest: none declared. Figure 1: The anterior view of volume-rendering image with semitransparent skeletal system, aorta and kidney shows that the left ICA 9, which is the origin of the artery of Adamkiewicz (arrow), is occluded proximally at the aorta. This image also shows collateral circulation to the artery of Adamkiewicz via the left inferior epigastric artery (IEA), the left...
